Whether you are a die-hard Southampton FC supporter or not, you have most likely heard of the legendary Matt Le Tissier, but how many times has this Premier League star being married? And who is the current Mrs. Le Tissier? Thrillz has the story.
Matt Le Tissier, born Matthew Paul Le Tissier, is the former Southampton footballer who became the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the Premier League. He is the second-highest ever scorer for Southampton, behind Mick Channon.
Matt Le Tissier is most known for his creative attacking midfield skills, incredible technical skills, and his record at scoring penalty kicks – converting from the spot 47 times from 48 attempts and is also considered one of the greatest ever from the 12-yard spot.
Le God
Matt Le Tissier spent the majority of his career at Southampton where he was seen as the attacking midfielder. He also won 8 caps for the England national team.
Dubbed ‘Le God’ by loyal Southampton supporters, Matt Le Tissier went on to have a prosperous career in football. Upon retiring as a player he became a football pundit. He worked until August 2020 as a panelist on the Sky Sports programme, Soccer Saturday.
In 2020 he was voted the best Premier League player of all time by Eurosport, beating out the likes of some of the most world-renowned Premier League footballers, such as Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.
Le God and Le Wife
Le Tissier met his childhood sweetheart Cathy when the pair were 16 years old and living in Guernsey. He later married Cathy in 1990 and the pair had two children together, Mitchell and Keeleigh. They divorced in 1997 and Cathy and their children relocated back to Guernsey. Cathy has since remarried.
Matt Le Tissier then had a brief relationship with Home and Away and Emmerdale actress Emily Symons. They met whilst she was starring in a Southampton pantomime. She came to his football club to have some promotional photos taken for the show and Matt happened to be there too. The pair got engaged but later split.
Matt then met his wife Angela Nabulsi, the pair got married in 2008 and have since been married for over 13 years.
A private ceremony
Matt Le Tissier and Angela Nabulsi got married in a small ceremony in a secret location abroad. Matt Le Tissier told The Daily Echo back in April 2008: “She is the one for me… I am quite happy about it all. There won’t be any friends or family it will be simple, just the two of us. It was the same when I popped the question. We were in a hotel called the K-Club in Ireland and I asked her to marry me over dinner. It was her 30th birthday. I didn’t get down on one knee – it’s not my style. I like to keep things a bit low key.”
Matt and his wife Angela also have a daughter, 12 year old Ava.
Away from the public eye
It is clear that the couple enjoys their privacy and so they aren’t seen in the public eye together much. They did however appear on an episode of the game show Mr & Mrs All Stars on ITV in 2016 where they won a whopping £30,000 for a children’s hospice.
The loved-up couple took home the jackpot for their chosen charity after host Phillip Schofield put the question to Matt “Which celebrity was Angela’s childhood crush?” to which the answer was surprisingly, and hilariously, one of Matt Le Tissier’s fellow Southampton players.
